A Report on Gifts to the 2007 Bishop’s Appeal

The Bishop’s Appeal is the primary source of support for agencies and ministries of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany that provide for the physical, educational and spiritual needs of people throughout the Capital Region. Gifts made to the 2007 Bishop’s Appeal are providing 70 percent of the support needed for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany’s many diverse ministries in our current fiscal year. The following report shows how gifts to this campaign helped extend the grace and goodness of the Lord across 14 upstate New York counties and 167 local parishes.

Understanding How Your Gifts Are Used:
Diocesan Schools and Religious Education These funds are used to support religious education for people of all ages across the Diocese. This includes support for the Diocesan Schools and the Evangelization and Catechesis offices. Parish and Diocesan Support These funds are used to support Chancery and parish programs. Pastoral Programs These funds are used in support of programs and offices that ensure the strength and vitality of the Diocese, our parishes, families and communities. These include Apostolates and Ethnic Ministries, Campus Ministry, the Ecumenical Council, Capital Region Ecumenical Council, Pastoral Planning, Pastoral Council, Prayer and Worship, Scouting, Tribunal and Women’s Commission. Religious Personnel Development These funds are used to support, advise, counsel and assist religious personnel who minister to members of the Diocese. This includes the Office of Priest Personnel, Consultation Services, Initial Ongoing Formation, Vicar for Religious, and Permanent Diaconate. Catholic Charities These funds are used to support a wide variety of health, human services and human development programs, including support for Catholic Charities offices in 14 counties. Clergy Recruitment and Education These funds are used to recruit, train and support those individuals considering the priesthood. Extra-Diocesan Responsibilities These funds are used to support programs of the greater Church, including the Holy See, The New York Catholic Conference and the United States Catholic Conference. Capital Purchases These funds are used to purchase a wide variety of equipment in support of the Diocese’s mission.
