Bishop Scharfenberger launches 61st Annual Bishop’s Appeal
The Most Reverend Edward B. Scharfenberger, Bishop of Albany, formally kicks off this year’s Bishop’s Appeal in delivering his homily at Sunday’s Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Albany..
His theme for the 61st Annual Bishop’s Appeal is, “We are all the Church.” It’s taken from a reflection Pope Francis gave last June on the “Year of the family.” The celebration of the Mass begins at 11:00 a.m. TODAY. The Cathedral is located at Eagle Street and Madison Avenue in Albany.
In discussing the appeal, Bishop Scharfenberger said, “Throughout its history, the Bishop’s Appeal has helped extend the healing heart of Christ to untold thousands of people of all denominations and backgrounds in many different ways.”
He added, “While it is impossible to calculate the actual number of lives touched over so many years, it is possible to imagine how many lives were changed for the better thanks to the incredible generosity of the people of our diocese. Today, in 2015, our Bishop’s Appeal continues this long tradition of generosity and caring.”
The Bishop’s Appeal provides the funding needed to sustain over thirty social, educational and religious ministries of the Albany Diocese including Catholic Charities, Catholic Schools, and Vocations. The campaign goal for 2015 is 7.5 million dollars.
