2016 Beacon of Hope Ball to Raise Scholarship Funds
for Catholic School Children in Diocese of Albany

The Catholic Schools Office of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany will hold its signature fundraising event, the 2016 Beacon of Hope Ball, on Friday, April 22, at Albany Country Club, Voorheesville, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The evening will include a musical review of Broadway show tunes performed by students. All proceeds will directly sponsor students’ education in the form of tuition assistance.
Established in 2006 by the Diocese of Albany Catholic Schools, the Beacon of Hope Scholarship Fund provides annual scholarships in the amount of $1,500 to students attending elementary, middle, and secondary Catholic schools. The Beacon of Hope Diocesan Scholarship Committee receives more than 250 applications each year and awards scholarships to as many families as possible.

Beacon of Hope Scholarships will be awarded Wednesday, April 20, at 9:15 a.m. at St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Road, Latham, during a prayer service and presentation.

“Taking action now will allow us to continue to strengthen the Diocese of Albany Catholic Schools with the creative spirit that energizes our children in faith,” said Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger, who serves as honorary chair of the Beacon of Hope Ball. “Our students are compelled to place their acquired skills, knowledge, and expertise at the service of others – to excel not only in the classroom but to inspire others to achieve excellence.”

Expressing great enthusiasm for the renewed support of the Beacon of Hope Scholarship Fund, Superintendent Michael E. Pizzingrillo added, “Each and every one of our schools continues to grow in innovative approaches, strategic partnerships, and continuous improvement in all areas. It is the beholding of the individual, mind, body, heart, and soul that makes Catholic Schools different – a place where children of all faiths can succeed.”

New this year, the first Beacon of Hope Community Spirit Award will be presented to an individual from each diocesan school in recognition of their commitment of time and talent and their dedication to the overall mission of service to others. (See list below)
