Faithful Citizenship Is Only Approved Catholic Voter Guide
It has come to our attention that several organizations are sending out “Catholic” voter surveys that are confusing because they appear to be Church-approved. This is not the case. The only official Catholic voter guide, approved by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, is Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship. In addition, Catholics in New York can also rely on the New York State Catholic Conference’s Guidelines for Political Activity.
Any other surveys, guides or voter mailings should be considered partisan and/or promotional and not reflective of the fullness of the Church’s teaching on various social issues.
As stated so well in the introduction to Faithful Citizenship, we are called to be “servants of the whole truth.”
“It would be a serious mistake—and one that occurs with regrettable frequency—to use only selected parts of the Church's teaching to advance partisan political interests or validate ideological biases. All of us are called to be servants to the whole truth in authentic love, and it is our fervent hope and prayer that this document will provide aid to all those seeking to heed this call.” —Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship
