Our Lady of Fatima Church was established in December 1952 by the Most Rev. Edmund F. Gibbons, Bishop of Albany . The parish began in 1872 as a mission of St. Vincent DePaul parish in Cobleskill. For more than two decades, St. Vincent ’s pastor, Father John Brosman , journeyed to Delanson by train to say Mass and administer the Sacraments. This was a particularly appropriate mode of travel since the village’s name originated from a combination of “Delaware” and “Hudson” and paid homage to the D&H Railroad.

Fr. Casey is remembered as writing “We are about to realize the object of our hopes and prayers… It will be a beautiful church, accommodating three hundred people. It will have a noble bell tower to echo the time of divine worship throughout our hills and valleys. Above all it will have a Sanctuary with a beautiful altar where the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered and where our Eucharistic King will dwell among us in the tabernacle.”

Numerous parish organizations are thriving at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Delanson. These include “Growing in Faith Together”, the new model of faith formation based on Whole Community Catechesis, The Senior Dining Center serving the needs of senior citizens in our community, The Rosary-Altar Society, The Food Pantry and The Right to Life Committee.
