Lynn O’Rourke - Parish Life Director

Welcome to Our Lady of Fatimas, Delanson.  We may be small, but we are HUGE-ly blessed here!  OLF offers a multitude of opportunities to enrich your faith and serve out your Baptismal call.

Evangelization: Last November, the Pastoral Council kicked off the Advent season with Sr. Ann Bryan Smollin who spoke about reducing holiday stress in our lives.  In March, we celebrated Mardi Gras with our first Pardon and Pancakes event as a way to begin our Lenten journey with a clean heart.  The parish held a Communal Penance Service, followed by a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper.  Every new event is a learning experience.  What we learned from Pardon and Pancakes was that it was so well received, that next year we need to arrange for more Priests to be present for individual Confessions!

Community Outreach: OLF has a thriving Outreach Ministry.  A dedicated, trained group of volunteers make regular visits to parishioners who are home-bound or residing in skilled nursing facilities.  We provide "Soup for the Shut-ins" and offer prayer Shawls to those in need of prayerful healing. OLF hosts a parish Rummage Sale each October, and the proceeds are dedicated solely to our Needy Family Fund.  This fund was used to pay the car insurance of one of our neighbors so that she could continue to drive her vehicle to work.  We assisted a family with an overdue telephone bill, and were able to pay an overdue bill to National Grid, thereby insuring that a family with young children at home would not have their utilities disconnected.  Please support our Rummage Sale by either donating items for us to dsell, by volunteering your time and talent to help during the sale, or by coming to the sale and rooting around for a bargain! During this past year, we have become the face of the Catholic Church to the inmates at the Schenectady County Jail.

A team of trained ministers visit the Jail weekly, from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. every Tuesday.  We offer a Communion Service, followed by faith-sharing, one-on-one counseling and other services on an as-needed basis.  All of the members of the Jail Ministry team gree wholeheartedly that our experience ministering to the oncarcerated is a tremendous blessing in all of our lives, and we get back so much more than we give.
