Mission Statement

Our Mission, as the Church of Saint John Vianney, is to live our Baptismal promises as God’s priestly, prophetic, and royal people, becoming the tangible, sacramental presence of Jesus Christ in our community, in our deanery, in our diocese, and in our world.

Jesus is the heart of our parish life and as His Body, we are called into genuine Christian community, guided by the Holy Spirit.  Here all people are welcome, and all are empowered and encouraged to labor personally and collaboratively to share God’s redemptive and liberating love in all areas of ministry, dedicated in mind, heart, body and spirit to dwell together in peace.

Recognizing our need to be nourished and nurtured spiritually for this sacred challenge, we commit: to gather faithfully in worship that is vibrant in ritual, music and participation; to receive and proclaim the Good News with passionate reverence; and, to celebrate the Sacraments as transcendent and transforming moments in our shared life with joy
and enthusiasm.

As responsible and faithful stewards of this sacred trust, we further pledge ourselves to: the lifelong evangelization and catechesis of our families, inclusive of all ages and forms, by service and witness as well as academics; the cherishing of our human resources; the care and maintenance of our material resources; and, accountability for our financial resources. As we prayerfully commit ourselves to fulfill our parish mission, we do so in the knowledge that we are continuing the mission and ministry of Jesus to proclaim the Kingdom of God as our lived reality.

Our Parish Prayer

Prayer in Time of Change

Beloved Jesus, anoint us to do your will.
May the joy of your dwelling in us draw us closer to each other.
Expand our vision to recognize your plan;
          warm our hearts by the flame of your Love;

open our lips so that we can speak your Word;
          extend our arms so that we can embrace each other as your people;
          speak to us so we can discern the role you have for us, your Body,
          your Church.

Fill us with your Holy Spirit, empowering us to become vital expressions of growth in your changing Church.
Your Kingdom is now!
Help us to discover and live your will.

Amen.

and Pastoral Associate Jackie Jefferson

Thomas Merton Prayer

MY LORD GOD, I have no idea where I am going.  I do not see the road ahead of me.  I cannot know for certain where it will end.  Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so.  But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you.  And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing.  I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire.  And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road though I may know nothing about it.  Therefore, I will trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death.  I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face may perils alone.

Amen.

Thomas Merton,
Thoughts in Solitude
