After the Columbine tragedy in 2000, the OECFL worked with a variety of diocesan and parish leaders and with the NYS Police to prepare and publish Safety and Crisis Management Guidelines for Parish Catechetical & Youth Ministry Programs. These were occasionally updated and in 2009 were combined with our Administration Guidelines and Policies as both manuals overlapped in terms of content to form a single, electronic document to facilitate searching by topic or keyword. The recent tragedies due to violence against children and adults in school and religious settings call for parishes and schools in the Diocese of Albany to review all safety and crisis guidelines and renew our commitment to the safety and well being of children, youth and adults who participate in our programs.
