The ministry of evangelization means bringing the Good News of Jesus into every human situation and seeking to convert individuals and society by the divine power of the Gospel itself. Evangelization is the mission of the entire Church and invites all persons to conversion and faith. The ministry of catechesis is situated in the context of the Church’s mission of evangelization and is seen as an essential element of that mission. Catechesis includes knowledge of the faith, liturgical education, moral formation, prayer, educating for community life, and mission. Its goal is to put people into communion and intimacy with Jesus Christ.

The Office of Evangelization and Catechesis is called to assist the Bishop and the diocese to carry out this mission. This Office guides and facilitates this mission through the formation, certification and support of leadership, catechists and youth ministers, through prayer and witness, and the development of programs, processes and resources. In the fulfillment of this mission, this Office shares in the mission of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany to witness God’s unconditional love and to bring Christ’s healing presence to our world.
