The Family Life Office: Parenting/Step Parenting

The Family Life Office offers workshops for parents to be held in parishes. Whatever the topic (discipline, family spirituality, personality differences, etc.) we can either present or recommend someone who can present for you. If you need resources, we can recommend them. If you would like to borrow resources, we do have a set of Active Parenting video tapes (teens and children). This program is designed so that parishes can run a six-week course on the philosophy of Active Parenting.

For Teens:

  • The Active Parent
  • Instilling Courage and Self-Esteem
  • Developing Responsibility
  • Winning Cooperation Through Communication
  • The Challenge of Alcohol and Other Drugs
  • Parenting and Teen Sexuality

For Children:

  • The Active Parent
  • Instilling Courage and Self-Esteem
  • Understanding Your Child
  • Developing Responsibility
  • Winning Cooperation
  • Active Parenting in Democratic Society

A Leader’s Guide comes with the tapes; parent workbooks must be purchased.

STEP-PARENTING

Parishes can sponsor a one-day Step-Parent workshop. The staff of the Family Life Office and Family Therapist Elizabeth Reid are available to present this interactive workshop. There is a fee for this service. If you are interested in forming a step-parent support group, please call our office. If there isn’t one in your area, we’d be happy to help you set one up.
