Pathways Of Faith: The Story Of Today's DRE (ADULT)
This video provides examples of the multifaceted responsiblities and roles of DREs in parishes throughout the United States as leaders committed to excellence in catechesis. It gives an excellent overview of the development of the role of the parish director of religious education since Vatican II. This video is an excellent resource for pastors, parish councils, diocesan offices, and parishes interested in hiring a DRE. It was developed through the efforts of the National Association of Parish Coordinators of Religious Education (NPCD) which functions under the auspices of the Department of Religious Education of the NCEA.

Shared Praxis Approach To Religious Education (ADULT)
Thomas Groome weaves Scripture, doctrine, and Christian living into a dynamic catechetical process. Catechists learn how to share the Gospel story and vision with others. PART I: Our Story and Vision - describes the shared praxis approach as simple and natural; outlines the five movements in the shared praxis process. PART II: Basic Principles - three convictions undergird shared praxis: 1) God is active in our lives today; 2) God discloses Godself in the story and vision of the Christian community; 3) the truth handed down to us and our personal experience must come into dialogue with each other. PART III: The Five Movements Explained - the five movements often overlap, and need not always be used in order. The process is made for the people; people are not made for the process.

This video shows how creative use of the arts - especially music, drama, and storytelling - can break open the Word for young children. This video and guide illustrate various ways to imaginatively involve young children in biblical story presentations so that they not only learn the story, but also engage in the reality of the experience. Fourteen stories are presented from New Testament and Hebrew Scriptures, including: The Emmaus Song, The Parable of the Talents, The Parable of the Two Sons, Matthew 5, The Prodigal Son, Isaiah 43, and Nathan's Story. Echoes of Faith: The Catechist: Part I: Getting Started as a Catechist (ADULT)
This is the first of a series of videos with a goal to acquaint catechists with the foundations of Catholic doctrine and tradition, and introduce them to the principles and practice of sound catechesis. The intended outcome is more competent and confident catechists. Topics include: lesson planning, creative activities, classroom management, and creating a social environment and an atmosphere for prayer.

Echoes of Faith: The Catechist: Part II: Roles of the Catechist (ADULT)
In this video, four important roles of catechists are presented: storyteller, teacher/companion, leader of prayer, and witness for justice. The four-fold purpose of catechesis is also presented: to teach the message, to build a faith community, to lead to prayer and worship, and to call to service. The video encourages you, as well, to meet regularly with other catechists, the school principal, or the program director.

Echoes of Faith: The Catechist: Part III: The Person of the Catechist (ADULT)
This video's format is a seminar. People reflect on their involvement in the catechetical ministry. Four insights are developed into the person of the catechist: the vocation of the catechist, the qualities of the catechist, growing as a catechist, and trusting the Spirit. As a result of working through this video, you should understand better the qualities of a catechists, realize the importance of your continued growth in faith, and appreciate the active role of the Spirit in your ministry.

Becoming A Successful Catechist: Getting Started: Part 1 (ADULT)
This is the first in a series of three videos. It provides strategies for dealing with typical attitudes and concerns of primary, intermediate and junior high students and expands the catechist's capabilities for instructional and classroom management techniques. Stating and clarifying the distinct characteristics and typical behaviors of each age group, it prepares catechists to meet their classes with confidence. It provides: ways to relate instruction to the student's life experience; ways to integrate formal, spontaneous, and reflective prayer into the classroom; and proven methods for building community to help the beginning catechist to establish a warm, caring classroom atmosphere.

Echoes of Faith: Catholic Morality (ADULT)
This video is one of a series. It is a basic level, video-assisted resource for the formation and enrichment of catechists in parishes and Catholic schools. It can also provide a vehicle for adult faith formation. The goal of this module is to explore the foundations of Catholic morality and the practice of the moral life. Some topics addressed are: human dignity and community as the foundations of the moral life, Scripture, objective morality and subjective responsibility, moral actions and the grace of God, conscience, and the Commandments and the new law of Jesus Christ.

Gaynell Cronin gives adults detailed information on what the Sacrament of Reconciliation means and how to convey forgiveness to another. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is more about God than it is about us. It tells us God is loving, healing, and forgiving at all times. This video shows practical ways of introducing our children to this living God.

Echoes of Faith: Liturgia Y Sacramentos (ADULT)
This is a Spanish language video which explores the meaning of liturgy and sacrament, and gains insight into why the sacramental life of the faith community is so central to our Catholic identity. Some core understandings addressed are: the meaning of ritual, the nature of liturgy, symbolic actions and the saving action we celebrate, and the seven sacraments and the experiences of life.

Becoming A Successful Catechist: Getting Started: Part 2 (ADULT)
The second in a series of three, this video provides encouragement and guidelines on practical concerns for the new catechist as well as for veteran catechists. It offers a clear explanation of how elements of lectionary-based catechesis can help instruction be more in tune with the movement of the Church Year. It offers practical tips on ways to structure lessons to include movement and activity; shows how to establish a few basic rules of class behavior so that classroom order is maintained; presents guidelines on how to handle student sarcasm. Finally, it shows how to deviate from the course of study when a teachable moment presents itself.

Becoming A Successful Catechist: Getting Started: Part 3 (ADULT)
This concluding portion of the three-part series introduces skills of classroom and curriculum management that can make the difference between success and discouragement. Shows how to integrate writing into the lesson using scripture, student experience and research. Explores the issue of memorization in religious education and explains the importance of vocal prayer as a means of holding the community together. Provides guidelines for student involvement in Christian service projects by exploring the problems, the joys and the benefits to your students. A discussion of the relationship between catechist, parents and the entire parish community concludes this program with a caution about the respect the catechist must show for parish traditions.

Boys Town Videos For Parents: A Change For The Better (ADULT)
This video offers practical, how-to advice to parents with children struggling through the often difficult preadolescent and teenage years. It helps parents deal with the frustrating problem of misbehavior. It goes a step beyond just stopping children from acting the wrong way by showing how to teach them a better way to act. Techniques presented will also assist teachers in student discipline and management. (Videos in this series are based on family living skills and educational principles developed and used in Boys Town homes and schools. The techniques have been adapted and presented for use in everyday family situations.)

Echoes of Faith: I Believe, We Believe (ADULT)
This video is one of a series. It is based on the Christian Creed, and is divided into five parts: God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, The Christian Creed, and The Magesterium. Each part deals with the topic as related in the recitation of the Nicene Creed and also the Apostles' Creed. It is an in-depth study of the Creed and how it is the basis for our Catholic Faith.

Sense of Justice: Catholic Education, the Law, and You (ADULT)
This is a three-part video series on the law narrated by Mary Angela Shaughnessy. The intent of this series is to make members aware of legal basics which can help them avoid legal entanglements. These programs are excellent resources for workshops. PART 1: Introduction (18 min.); PART 2: Schools (27 min.)--located in Catholic Schools Office; PART 3: Religious Education (23 min.). Mary Angela, a nationally known Catholic educator, writer, and lawyer, narrates the series which features actual cases to help board members handle legal matters confidently.

AIDS: A Catholic Educational Approach To HIV (ADULT)
The reality of AIDS has created a profound social, moral, and medical crisis in virtually every facet of society. This video provides educators with tips for overcoming obstacles in teaching about HIV/AIDS and demonstrates instructional techniques taken from the curriculum manual, AIDS: A CATHOLIC EDUCATIONAL APPROACH TO HIV. The video is divided into three modules according to grade level: Kindergarten through Grade 4; Grades 5-8; and Grades 9-12. Learning objectives focus on Christian response, basic information, and transmission and prevention. Lessons aid in developing knowledge, attitudes, values, and decision-making skills within the context of Catholic moral teaching. Echoes of Faith: Introduction to the Learner (ADULT)
This video is one of a series. It introduces you to your learners and to the continuous cycle of growth and development that occurs throughout their lives. You will have the opportunity to explore this growth and development in three areas: how we build knowledge and construct meaning; how we grow psychologically and in our ability to relate to others; and how we grow in our ability to think and act morally. In the final segment, you will learn how all these areas of development affect how we perceive and express our faith.

Echoes of Faith: Introduction to the Scriptures (ADULT)
This video is one of a series. It is intended as a general overview of the central themes and message of the Bible. You will learn what the Bible is and why it is considered the holy book of the Christian community. You will be introduced to some of the foundational stories of the Bible. The module will conclude with a reflection on Jesus Christ, who reveals to us the fullness of God's saving action in our midst.
