Vatican II 3rd Millenium Series - Ecumenism (ADULT)
This VATICAN II series explains the change in outlook that the Council fostered in the Church and explores how the documents of Vatican II continue to renew the Church today. It is excellent for adult education , RCIA, small groups, catechist training, returning Catholics and post-RENEW groups. The ecumenical movement has been called the miracle of the twentieth century. Ecumenism refers to the promotion of unity among the Christian churches. In its broader sense, ecumenism extends also to non-Christian religions. This video, ECUMENISM, explores the ecumenical movement in the Church before, during and after the Council. The ecumenical movement was first started in the early 1900's in Asia and Africa by Protestant missionaries who began to realize that the greatest obstacle to preaching the gospel was the scandal of division among Christian churches. The starting point for ecumenism in the Catholic Church centered on the question, "What is the Church?" Half a century of study and experience by European theologians began to blossom at Vatican II when biblical, liturgical, lay and missionary renewal all pointed toward ecumensim.

Vatican II 3rd Millenium Series - Laity (ADULT)
This VATICAN II series explains the change in outlook that the Council fostered in the Church and explores how the documents of Vatican II continue to renew the Church today. It is excellent for adult education, RCIA, small groups, catechist training, returning Catholics and post-RENEW groups. This video, LAITY, helps the excitement and vision of the Council come to life and clarifies the understanding of the Church today and its future directions. The Pre-Vatican II Church in America went from the era of the immigrants, whose active participation in the Church took the form of contributions toward building needed churches, schools, and hospitals, to a time when the laity were largely on the periphery of Church activities. Vatican II restored the rightful place of the lay person in the life of the Church: "These faithful are by baptism made one body with Christ and are established among the People of God. They are in their own way sharers in the priestly, prophetic, and kingly functions of Christ. They carry out their own part in the mission of the whole Christian people with respect to the Church and the world." This video shows how after Vatican II, the United States has seen an explosion of lay involvement in Church ministry.

Changing Sacraments: Godparent Gussie (HS, ADULT)

Anthony Scannell. It shows how the sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation evolved and demonstrates how church practice and ritual are constantly involved in a process of change and growth. It helps the viewer understand that we are one Church, wherein some of us were brought into the community as infants, guided by our parents' faith while others come to Baptism as adults, with a greater personal motivation. As we mature in faith, we all struggle together to understand and live out our baptismal commitment. Knowing where our belief and practice came from helps us to see more clearly where we are as believers in process and on a journey of faith.
