Catholic Faith Formation and Education

Sunday Morning (PK, Emementary Grades K-3)
This bright and lively video, filled with children singing, children praying and praising, and bible stories, is unique in its approach to how Christians pray together. It situates our principle worship on Sunday morning, the traditional first day of creation, the day of resurrection. And, while it engages and speaks to children between four and ten years of age, it does so in a way that brings them essential insights into the heart of Christian tradition.

Teaching Prayer in the Classroom - Session 3: Forms of Prayer in Liturgy (ADULT)
This is the third video in a series of four. The liturgy is a great source of the Church's prayer. This session presents prayer as blessing, adoration, thanksgiving, petition, and intercession, experienced in the Liturgy of the Eucharist and lived out in daily life. Practical applications of the material to use in the classroom are offered throughout the session.

When Children Gather (Elementary)
When Children Gather celebrates the ritual life of children. This 2-CD collection corresponds to GIA's books "WCG, 20 Eucharistic liturgies for the school year" and "WCG: 20 prayer services for the liturgical year". Score included.

Liturgies of the Triduum: Holy Thursday (JH, HS, ADULT)
This is the first of three videos on the Triduum. The three days of the Triduum are the center and climax of the Christian year. We see and hear how the Church assembles on Holy Thursday night and processes into the Paschal Triduum. After the assembly has heard powerful scripture readings, have washed each other's feet, have raised a collection for the poor, have celebrated Eucharist together and have sung and processed with the Blessed Sacrament, then the three days are well begun.

Liturgies of the Triduum: Good Friday (JH, HS, ADULT)
This is the second of three videos on the Triduum. This video explores what happens on the afternoon or evening of Good Friday. The Church assembles in a way that is unlike any other day of the year. Kneeling or prostrate, all are silent. Then, the scriptures are proclaimed and prayers of intercession are chanted. Finally, the holy cross is set down in the midst of the Church and each person comes forward to honor the wood of the cross, singing of how we Christians glory in the cross.

Liturgies of the Triduum: Easter Vigil (JH, HS, ADULT)
This is the third of three videos on the Triduum. "This is the night," the cantor proclaims over and over. It is the great Vigil of Easter. The night is spent first around a blazing fire, then around the newly lighted candle, then around the scriptures where some of our best stories are told again. Finally comes the calling of the saints as all process to the font. Those who have been long preparing renounce evil, profess their faith in Christ and enter the waters. After they are anointed with chrism, they go with the whole joyful assembly to celebrate the Eucharist. It is a splendid night!

Order of Christian Funerals: A Tradition of Faith (ADULT)

When faced with the death of a loved one, it is natural to feel overwhelmed and confused. The video is designed to help you and your family make funeral arrangements now or for the future. It will help you understand the role of the Church, its rituals and liturgies, and explore options available within the Catholic burial tradition.

Celebrating Christ's Splendor; An Easter Special (HS, ADULT)
Our Lord's resurrection is proclaimed with a joyful spirit in this video. Filmed at St. John's Cathedral in Cleveland, this hour-long Easter special is filled with the pageantry and spirituality of the holiest of days in the Christian Church. This video stands to become a classic for families and parish groups as they seek the deeper meanings of Easter.

Understanding Christian Symbols (JH, HS, ADULT)
The video explores several Christian symbols and their roots in personal human experience and salvation history--connections to the eternal which move us to respond to God with love. From the Alpha and Omega to tongues of fire, from the baptismal font to the cross and crown, this video links the richness of tradition to the life of the contemporary believer. This is a much-needed resource for Confirmation classes and is equally appropriate for adult groups. It incorporates history and theology in a visually compelling format, and increases students' understanding of other Christian traditions as well as their own. A guide with discussion questions and suggested activities accompanies the video.

History of the Eucharist: What the Eucharist Really Means (JH)
Mike and Olivia are two teens with some questions about the Mass: Why do we have to go every week? What are we really doing? Why do we repeat the same thing over and over? If I can feel close to God when I am alone, why do I have to go to Mass? This two-part program answers these questions and more. PART I (14 min.) explains in dialogue style how the Eucharist has developed from the Last Supper to the present. PART II (18 min.) explains the parts of the Mass in a way that helps teens relate to it more personally. Each of the parts is followed with a topic development segment to further unfold the previous presentation.

Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors (ADULT)
The video highlights the importance of including persons with physical, mental, and emotional differences into Liturgy and church life. Featuring Joseph Cardinal Bernardin and Henri Nouwen.

The Angel's Mass Lesson (Rec. grades 3-6)
Danny wants to go on a weekend class trip, but his parents won't let him miss mass. Danny is very angry about this, so the angel Veritas comes for a visit. They travel back in time to the second century, where they visit a "house church", gathering with early Christians to celebrate the Eucharist. Before this experience, Danny took Mass for granted, but afterwards he understands that celebrating eucharist is a privilege and that his faith is a precious gift.

Training the Mass Server (Grades 4-8)
This video presents the duties mass servers perform in three parts. Part 1 explains how young people should prepare; Part 2 gives directions for serving during the Liturgy of the Word; Part 3, for serving during the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Objects and terms that servers will encounter are explained. The video reinforces the value of this ministry and encourages young people to serve with willing hearts and minds.
