The Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany learned today that a confirmed case of COVID-19 has been traced to a person who attended the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, March 8, at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Latham.

Due to growing concerns and medical advice related to the rapid spread of COVID-19 in social settings, Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger has announced that all regularly scheduled public Masses in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany — except weddings and funerals — will be canceled until further notice. Churches will, however, remain open for private prayer, pending further regulations.

The Catholic School Office of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany announced today that all Catholic schools in the Diocese will be closed next week from Monday, March 16, 2020, to Friday, March 20, 2020, out of an abundance of caution in response to the spread of COVID-19.

In light of the serious health risks to vulnerable populations due to the spread of the Coronavirus, Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger has temporarily dispensed with the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days.
