Area Catholics to Help With Hurricane Harvey Relief Effort

August 31, 2017

At the request of Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger, a collection to assist relief efforts in states ravaged by Hurricane Harvey will be taken up at all Masses on the weekend of September 9-10 in parishes throughout the 14-county Diocese of Albany.

All proceeds will be sent to Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany, which will then forward the money collected through this effort to organizations that are assisting on the ground in the flood-damaged areas. This emergency collection will be used both to support the humanitarian and long-term recovery efforts of Catholic Charities USA and to provide pastoral and rebuilding support to impacted dioceses through the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

“The catastrophic flood and storm damage in Texas and Louisiana has left thousands of people without shelter, without jobs, sometimes without anything more than the clothes on their backs. I ask that you give what you can to help our brothers and sisters suffering in these difficult and often life-altering conditions,” said Bishop Scharfenberger. “I also ask that you remember them in prayer as they face the monumental task of rebuilding their lives as well as their cities and towns.”
