The Office of the Diaconate works closely with the Bishop and in collaboration with the Deacon Life and Ministry Council to help support the mission of the Church, the Albany Diocese, the ministry and life of the deacons and wives and widows of deacons. The work of the office includes recommending to the Bishop specific deacons for placement in particular assignments; working with deacons and the Bishop’s Office on incardination and faculties issues and dealing with deacons on issues such as health problems, family problems and ministerial and placement problems affecting their ministry.
The Director serves as the Executive Officer of the Deacon Life and Ministry Council, the Chair of the Diaconate Placement Committee and participates in the selection process for Deacon Candidates. He also serves as the Albany Director Representative for the Diocese of Albany in the National Association of Deacon Directors.
The Director/Office also works with and under the Vicar for Clergy and closely with the Directors of Deacon Initial Formation and Ongoing Formation as well as the Chancellor for Pastoral Services and the Office of Pastoral Planning with the ongoing effort to bring God’s message of healing and love to the people of Albany.
