Bishop Scharfenberger Announces Pastoral, Administrative Assignments

Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger has announced the following Pastoral and Administrative Assignments:

Diocesan Administration

Giovanni Virgiglio has been appointed Diocesan Chancellor, effective July 1. This is in addition to Mr. Virgiglio’sposition as Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Albany. (See full release.)

Episcopal Vicar

Rev. Anthony M. Barratt has been appointed Episcopal Vicar for the Hudson Valley Vicariate, effective July 1. This assignment is in addition to Father Barratt’s duties as Pastor of Holy Trinity, Hudson, and its parish missions: Resurrection Church, Germantown, and Church of the Nativity, Linlithgo; and his position as Director of the diocesan Office of Prayer and Worship. 

Pastor

Rev. James Davis has been appointed Pastor of Our Lady of the Valley, Middleburgh, and Administrator of Our Lady of Fatima, Delanson, effective July, 1.

Rev. Joseph O’Brien has been appointed Pastor of Blessed Sacrament, Albany, and its mission, the Shrine Church of Our Lady of the Americas, Albany, effective July, 1.

Rev. Francis Vivacqua, II has been appointed Pastor of St. Mary’s, Ballston Spa, and its mission, St. Mary’s, Galway, effective July, 1.

Rev. Matthew Wetsel has been appointed Pastor of Holy Spirit, Gloversville, and Holy Trinity, Johnstown, effective July, 1.

Parish Life Coordinator

Deacon Joseph M. Cechnicki has been appointed Parish Life Coordinator for Our Lady of Hope, Fort Plain, effective July, 1.

Ms. Janine O’Leary has been appointed Parish Life Coordinator for St. Patrick’s, Athens, and St. Patrick’s, Catskill,effective May 22, 2018.

Retirements

Rev. John J. Bradley, pastor of Blessed Sacrament in Albany, effective June 30.

Rev. Donald Czelusniak, pastor of Holy Spirit in Gloversville and Holy Trinity in Johnstown, effective May 20, 2018.

Rev. Thomas J. Kelly, pastor of St. Mary’s Ballston Spa and Galway, effective June 30.

Rev. Peter N. Pagones, pastor of St. Paul the Apostle and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Schenectady, effective June 30.
