Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger has announced the appointment of Mary DeTurris Poust, diocesan Director of Communications, to the newly created position of Associate Publisher of The Evangelist, effective immediately. The Associate Publisher will work closely with the Editor on setting the tone and direction of the paper going forward.
Ms. DeTurris Poust, who also serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors of The Evangelist’s parent company, Albany Catholic Press Association, Inc., has worked in the Catholic press for 34 years and is the former Managing Editor of Catholic New York, the newspaper of the Archdiocese of New York, where she remains a columnist. She has also served as Associate Editor of The Catholic Spirit in Austin, Texas, and as Contributing Editor for Our Sunday Visitor, a national Catholic weekly. She has written hundreds of articles for secular and Catholic publications and is the author of six books on Catholic spirituality.
