Bishop Scharfenberger appoints new Music Director of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Albany and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany

Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger proudly announces the appointment of Dr. Timothy Reno as the new Music Director of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany. Dr.  Reno has been the interim Music Director of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception since September of 2021. Dr Reno will immediately assume the permanent position of Music Director of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and the Diocese of Albany.  

Dr. Reno’s musical life began at an early age and was nurtured by his family, schools, and parish music director in Connecticut. At Ithaca College he earned a BM in vocal performance and music education. He went on to pursue the MM and DMA in choral conducting at the University of Maryland. While in Maryland he served as Music Director at Our Lady of the Fields Church in Millersville and sang with the schola cantorum of the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle and other choirs the in Washington, D.C. area. He has also taught at the middle and high school levels.

At Siena College, Dr. Reno is an Associate Professor of Creative Arts and Associate Dean of the liberal arts faculty. He directs the Siena Chamber Singers, teaches other courses in vocal and general music, and serves as music director for the theatre program. In 2018 he founded the Clare Ensemble Singers, a professional-level chamber choir in residence. Provost and Senior Vice President Dr. Margaret Madden states: “Dr. Reno is a superb musician and teacher and a leader in the Siena community. We are thrilled that he will share his talents with the broader community in this prestigious position.”

Since this past September he has been acting as the cathedral’s interim choirmaster. He says, “the cathedral has a wonderful music ministry and leadership team, and I am truly honored to serve our community in this new way. I pray that this will be a time of continued growth and joy for us all.”
