The following is a statement by Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger in response to the release of the Holy See's report on former cardinal Theodore McCarrick:
“We thank the Holy Father for his commitment to uncovering the truth, however painful it might be, and we thank all those survivors whose courage to come forward shined a light on this darkness. Only by shining that same light of truth into every corner where abuse hides can we heal our Church and our world, help survivors in their recovery, and move forward in hope."
