It is with great sadness that the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany shares news of the passing of Fr. Dominic S. Ingemie. He passed to eternal life on October 19, 2023.
Fr. Ingemie was born in Albany in 1941. He graduated from Cardinal McCloskey High School in 1959, attended Siena College and began studies at Mater Christi Seminary in Albany in 1962. He completed his formation at the Pontifical North American College in Rome and was ordained there on December 21, 1967.
He shared his calling with many in the Albany Diocese, serving as associate pastor of St. Francis de Sales in Troy and St. Henry’s in Averill Park, while also teaching full time at Catholic Central High School in Troy. He went on to become Assistant Principal and later Principal at Catholic Central High. In the early 1980’s, he was named pastor at St. Anthony’s Church in Schenectady. He also taught at Catskill Central Catholic High School and Maria College and later took on the duties of Acting Superintendent of Diocesan Schools.
In 1990, he was named pastor of St. James Church in Albany. In 2005, he became pastor of St. Peter’s Church in Saratoga Springs, a role he held until he retired in February of 2014. After retirement, he helped in various parishes throughout the Albany diocese, and served as a part-time chaplain at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. Throughout his ministry he also served on several local boards. He also worked with the Economic Opportunity Council, Catholic Charities, and helped to establish the first Code Blue homeless shelter in Saratoga Springs.
Services for Fr. Ingemie will take place Friday, October 27, 2023, at St. Pius X Church in Loudonville. Relatives and friends are invited to pay respects between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. and will be livestreamed on the St. Pius X website at https://stpiusxloudonville.org/
