The Tradition
The tradition of visiting seven churches on Holy Thursday may date to Rome at the time of St. Philip Neri in the 16th Century. Regardless of how the tradition started, we take the time to pray and reflect on what took place at the Last Supper, including how Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and gave them his own body and blood in the Eucharist, and then what happened at each of the seven places Jesus was brought afterward, until the Crucifixion on Friday.
Organize Your Own Holy Thursday Pilgrimage
We invite you to organize your own Holy Thursday Pilgrimage.
Choose seven churches in your region that would be willing to take part.
Designate people to stamp passports at each location.
It may also be a good idea to put up a sign at each location to remind people to keep a respectful silence.
